Workshift cancellation

If you need to cancel your workshift, please notify us as soon as possible, and at least one week in advance.  In the unlikely event that we need to cancel a workshift, we will notify you by email at least 24 hours before the start of your shift.  Be sure to check your email before coming to your shift!

Preparing For Your Work Shift

Clothing.  Wear durable clothes and shoes that can get dirty and wet.  Wear lots of warm layers.  In the spring and fall it's almost always colder, wetter, and windier here than you expect.

Bring suntan lotion.

Water.  Bring a metal or plastic container, not a glass bottle.  If accidentally left in the field, glass bottles can puncture tractor tires.

Bug protection.  We often have swarms of biting gnats from late May to mid July.  We recommend a citronella insect repellant (such as Herbal Armor) or vanilla extract (effective!).

Pets.  Please do not bring them.

Directions

We are located near Highway 151 between Mineral Point and Belmont.  We recommend that you allow extra travel time to ensure that you arrive on time.

From Madison: Take Highway 151 South.  Several miles after you pass the city of Mineral Point, you will drive through two steep-sided valleys.  Then you will pass the intersection with Jericho / Bethel Grove Roads.  The next intersection is Burr Oak Road.  Turn right on Burr Oak Road.  (If you reach the Belmont exit, you have passed Burr Oak Road and gone too far).  Once on Burr Oak Road, make the first left on Cottage Inn Road.  On Cottage Inn Road, we are the first farm on the left.  From the Hwy 18/151/Verona Road/Midvale Blvd exit of the Beltline, the trip takes about 1 hour.

From Dubuque or Platteville:  Take Highway 151 North. About 3 miles after you pass the Belmont exit, make a left onto Burr Oak Road. (Note: the intersection of Burr Oak and Hwy 151 is easy to miss. There is a large yellow farmhouse on your left right before the intersection. If you reach the intersection with Jericho / Bethel Grove Roads, you have passed Burr Oak Road and gone too far). Once on Burr Oak Road, make the first left on Cottage Inn Road. On Cottage Inn Road, we are the first farm on the left.  From downtown Dubuque, the trip takes about 40 minutes; from Platteville, about 15-20 minutes.

From Galena: Take Highway 84 North. When you enter Wisconsin, continue straight on Highway 80. Follow Highway 80 straight through Hazel Green and Cuba City. Before reaching Platteville, turn right onto Highway 151 North. About 3 miles after you pass the Belmont exit, make a left onto Burr Oak Road.
